What is a keyboard Shortcut?

A keyboard shortcut is one or more keys used to perform a menu function or other common functions in a program or operating system.

The keys that are meant to be pressed at the same time are joined by a + in written text. For example, Ctrl+S means you should press the Ctrl and S keys at the same time to save .

Commonly Used Keyboard Shortcuts

  1.  Ctrl+ Z : Undoes the last action
  2.  Ctrl + Y: Redoes the last thing undone
  3. Crtl + O open file or document
  4. Crtl + S : saves a file or document
  5. Ctrl + W : close active window or file. Note at times Alt + F4 does the same thing
  6. Crtl + Q : quit application
  7. Ctrl + A :(select all or highlight All ; e.g. You can press  Ctrl + A to select all  text on page)
  8. Ctrl + X :(Copies and removes an item or text; Note : for you to cut you have first highlight)
  9. Ctrl + C :(Copies an item or text;   Note : for you to copy you have first highlight)
  10. Ctrl + V : (paste)
  11. Alt+F4:   Closes window; shuts down computer if all windows are closed
  12. Alt + Tab Switch between open apps:
  13. Ctrl+N :  Opens a new window, tab, or document
  14. Ctrl+F : Opens search tools; in most programs, opens a search box to find specific words on a page
  15. Ctrl+Alt+Delete Opens Task Manager (its also a shortcut for warm booting)
  16. Windows logo key + D  Display and hide the desktop:
  17. Windows logo key + L  : its used to Lock your PC:
  18.  Windows logo key + X : Open the Quick Link menu
  19. Windows button + M (show desktop, i.e., minimize all windows)
  20. Windows button + Tab (show all active windows in task bar)
  21. PrtScn : save screen capture to clipboard; “paste” the image into an image-editing program to make it into a file)
  22. Windows button + PrtScn : Its is Used to take ScreenShoot
  23. Ctrl + T : open a new tab note: it works only when a web browser is open eg. Google chrome
  24. Ctrl + Shift + t: reopens the tab you last closed;  note: it works only when a web browser is open
  25. F5 : Reload page a webpage or It can be used for refreshing
  26. Ctrl + D : Delete the selected item and move it to the Recycle Bin
  27. Windows key + “+” key Zoom in using the magnifier.
  28. Windows key + “-” key:  Zoom out using the magnifier.
  29. Ctrl + Home :Move cursor to top/start of document
  30. Ctrl + End :  Move cursor to bottom/end of document
