What Makes Good UCE Notes Under the New Curriculum?
Uganda’s new lower secondary curriculum is competence-based. UCE items test whether you can apply knowledge to real situations, not just repeat definitions. Good UCE notes should therefore:
- Follow the learning outcomes in the NCDC syllabus for each topic. Check them in our NCDC syllabus books.
- Include examples from everyday life in Uganda, because UCE items are written as real-life scenarios.
- Explain the “why” and “how”, not only the “what”. This helps you answer application questions.
- Link to practice. After reading a topic, test yourself with UCE past papers and activities of integration.
How to Study With UCE Notes
- Read actively. Read a section, close the notes, then write down what you remember in your own words.
- Make short revision cards. Put key terms, diagrams and examples on small cards for quick revision.
- Teach a friend. Explaining a topic aloud quickly shows what you have not understood yet.
- Practise questions. Use past papers and end of term assessments to apply what you have read.
- Revise little and often. Thirty minutes every day works better than one long session before exams.
